Why Natural Organic Products are Better than Synthetic Alternatives

MoringaTo buy organic products or not, that is one of the major questions people ask themselves every time they go get food or health supplements.

This is not surprising seeing as we are bombarded daily with messages, ads, and programs aimed at showing us that organic natural products are far better than synthetic products. This is particularly reinforced when it comes to health supplements.

There’s the thought that the best sources of nourishment from supplements are from organic supplements. This is not surprising, seeing as the body is built for natural and organic materials. That said, the benefits of organic food supplements and products include

Little or No Side Effects

Organic foods naturally have little or no side effects. For example, no matter how much you consume vegetables or fruits, you will not suffer from any side effects. Sure, there are a few fruits that you may want to consume within reason – after all, it makes sense that there be moderation in everything you eat – but this doesn’t mean that they are dangerous and have terrible side effects.

No Questionable Chemical Ingredients

Nowadays, we are surrounded by chemicals. The soap we use contains synthetic chemicals, the clothes we wear are made from synthetic materials, so do the foods we eat and even the water we drink –excessive chlorine anyone? Let’s not forget about the soft drinks.

Bottom line, we are already ingesting things that contain too many synthetic materials. Organic products are usually produced in such a way that you never have to worry about any questionable synthetic ingredients.

Aids Quicker Healing

Because the body naturally absorbs the ingredients and nutrients from organic products faster, the body is likely to heal up quickly if there’s an injury. For instance, organically produced Moringa Oleifera trees are known for their immune system boosting quality and the ability to eliminate free radicals.

This is because the plant is rich in antioxidants. As you probably know, a body that can control or get rid of the huge amount of free radicals in it will most assuredly live longer, combat aging and stay healthy for a long, long time.

Most organic supplements like the Moringa can boost your metabolism, helping you lose weight, stay healthy and live a long healthy, disease-free life.

Doesn’t Require too Much of the Body’s Resources to Process it

Foods with synthetic materials in them tend to stress and take a toll on the body. For instance, excess soda intake can cause diabetes, weight gain, and kidney problems to mention a few. Water, on the other hand, has never done anything but enrich and nourish our bodies.

The same goes for fresh squeezed orange juice or fruit juices. As long as the nutrient source is not tainted by synthetic materials, the body is often able to handle it easily. Another good example is hydroquinone in body creams that has been identified as carcinogenic.

Interestingly papaya and bananas can produce the same skin nourishment and lightening that hydroquinone used to. However, in this case, without the necessary side effects. This shows that our bodies were not built for synthetic products.

No Possibility of Overdosing

Have you ever heard of anyone overdosing on fruits like carrots or other veggies? That is right. No one has. Now, have you heard of people overdosing or suffering extreme side effects from people taking synthetic drugs like vitamin A and overdosing on them and suffering severe side effects? You bet.

A good example is the natural source of vitamin A – carrots. No one has ever suffered horrible side effects or overdosed on it. However, synthetic vitamin A has resulted in child retardation and birth defects in women; and overdosing on it means certain death. Go figure.

So, stop abusing your body with synthetic products.  Take more organic supplements –particularly Moringa – if you want to be in excellent health and fight off infections. It is really the best thing to do for your body.

Anti-Cancer Benefits of Moringa Oleifera

The Moringa Oleifera tree has become known as the “miracle tree” thanks to the numerous benefits that it offers and the fact that the whole tree can be used in a variety of ways. Modern medicine has only recently begun studying the medicinal powers of Moringa Oleifera while the plant has been used as a traditional therapy for many ailments for thousands of years beginning with ancient Ayurvedic medicine in India.

One of the most promising ways that the tree’s seeds and leaves can be used is in the treatment and prevention of cancer cells. Scientists have found that Moringa Oleifera contains properties that aid in reducing inflammation and reducing the occurrence of cancers in the ovaries, breast, and skin. Moringa Oleifera has also been found to be effective against cancers of the pancreas, lung, colon, liver and esophagus. A team of Indian researchers found that Moringa Oleifera can be a very effective treatment for ovarian cancer since the roots quickly work to target bad cells and retard the growth of affected cells, helping to minimize the chances of the cancer spreading or recurring. In fact, it has been determined that Moringa Oleifera contains nineteen different effects that prevent cancer and ten anti-tumor effects.

As stated on the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center website, under Herbs, Botanicals, and Other Products, within their Integrative Medicine section, “In vitro and animal studies indicate that the leaf, seed, and root extracts of Moringa Oleifera have anticancer, hepatoprotective, hypoglycemic, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, and antisickling effects. They may also protect against Alzheimer’s disease, stomach ulcers, help lower cholesterol levels, and promote wound healing.”

Moringa Oleifera’s extremely high nutritional content, which has made the plant very popular in parts of the world struggling with malnutrition, helps cancer patients stay strong for their fight thanks to the vitamins, minerals, and amino acids that it provides. Moringa Oleifera also contains forty antioxidant compounds that help the body to rid itself of free radicals, substances which have been shown to cause cancer. One compound in particular, niazimicin, has been shown to actively restrain the growth of cancer cells. Moringa Oleifera also contains the chemical benzyl isothiocyanate which increases the strength of cells; critical for cancer patients that require chemotherapy as part of their treatment.

Although further research is needed, studies have shown that a natural medicinal like Moringa Oleifera can play a very important part of a comprehensive treatment plan for patients fighting to beat this terrible disease. Even though tests using animals have yielded positive results, researchers believe that further rigorous study is required before we’ll know if this natural resource can work consistently in humans. Always consult with your physician to discuss your treatment options before using Moringa Oleifera.

Oncologists are hopeful that with the increased focus of researchers studying Moringa Oleifera, perhaps they will uncover the most effective combination of natural and pharmaceutical therapies. If this is the case, thousands of lives may be saved. Perhaps Moringa Oleifera truly is a “miracle tree”!

What is the Moringa Tree and how was it discovered to be beneficial to your overall health?

MoringaTree11Famous for its numerous health benefits and its important role in fighting malnutrition, the Moringa tree is considered to be one of the most nutritious food plants ever discovered. The scientific community seems to agree with this statement and endorses this miracle tree for its diverse nutritional content. In addition, ScienceDaily, a respected science magazine, has declared the Moringa tree “the world’s most useful tree”.

This drought resistant and very sturdy tree is native to the Horn of Africa and the Eastern dry highlands of Tanzania, Kenya, and Ethiopia, but also small areas in Asia, where it grows sporadically. A staple food source for goat and cattle herds, the Moringa tree was known for its numerous health benefits since Antiquity. For thousands of years, the local population used its leaves, the bark and its roots for their high nutritional value, various minerals and unique taste, as well as an energy booster, a very similar effect to common coffee beans.

Lauded since the ancient Ayurvedic times in India, the Moringa tree was thought to cure more than 300 diseases. This small tree, also dubbed “the drumstick tree”, because of its drum-like appearance, has grown tremendously in popularity among farmers, mainly because it is easy to grow in almost any environment and has multiple benefits, in both the health and cosmetic industries, as well as the energy and construction industries.

What makes the Moringa tree so beneficial for your overall health?

Moringa-diagramHistorians and biologists agree that the first known use of the Moringa tree was in early antiquity, in the Eastern Africa rural areas, where shepherds and villagers used it as an energy booster during various religious ceremonies. Recently, archeologists discovered ancient cave paintings that feature patterns very similar in shape and size to the Moringa leaves and trunk.

The most nutritious part of this miracle tree is, by far, its leaves. Harvested all year round, typically every 30 to 45 days, the dark green compound leaves have up to 20 or 25 leaflets, depending on their size. The nutritional value of these leaves is simply spectacular: they have seven times more vitamin C than lemons, 25 times more iron than spinach and up to 15 times more potassium than bananas. Moringa leaves have high amounts of vitamins, including vitamin A (alpha and beta-carotene), B1, B2, B3, B5, B6 and B12 vitamins, as well as D, E and K vitamins. The mineral list is even longer, including calcium, chromium, chloride, manganese, magnesium, molybdenum, sodium, selenium, sulfur, and zinc. Amino-acids include leucine, lysine, phenylalanine and valine among many others. Also, the leaves have more than 46 anti-oxidants, dozens of phytochemicals that boost your metabolism levels and 36 anti-inflammatory compounds that will help you recover after extended periods of effort.

Although this list is impressive enough as it is, it is far from being complete. Just listing every nutritional component that you can find in the Moringa tree needs an entire scientific journal and is a herculean task in itself. Empirical evidence and multiple studies performed decades ago have shown that this miracle tree can prevent and fight the symptoms of chronic disease like diabetes, high blood pressure, cancer and heart disease. Even the patients that have been diagnosed with AIDS have seen good results.

While its multiple health benefits are becoming well known worldwide, the tree is also an important superfood that can be used to fight hunger problems and malnutrition. The entire tree can be eaten and, thanks to its astonishing nutritional value, it can become a very efficient and affordable source of protein, glucides, as well as vitamins and minerals. The tree has been an important health improvement factor especially in the Third World countries, where it is used as a potent food supplement, boosting the overall health of the residents.

Moringa: The History and the Science

Moringa Oleifera has drawn much attention in scientific circles for its reported medical and nutritional benefits. Already the Moringa tree is making its way internationally to help resolve issues with starvation around the world, standing up as one of the few true “superfoods” in the world. However, the history of Moringa (known by many names as the drumstick tree, horseradish tree, clarifier tree, and more) extends to well before the time when it fell under the scrutiny of Western science. The benefits have been well known in Asia for centuries. This ancient knowledge has now fallen under the lens of science, and it turns out: the history has a strong case.

The history of the Moringa tree starts in the southern Himalayas, with roots in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. Although the timber itself was poor as a construction material, the tree itself was quickly recognized as a food source. As such, the Romans, Greeks, and Egyptians all cultivated the Moringa tree as these civilizations encountered them. While all parts are edible, the highest nutritional value comes from consuming the leaves, ideally in a dried and powdered form. While there are many dishes and recipes that incorporate Moringa leaves, as with any produce, cooking has been known to compromise some of the nutritional value.

While its nutritional benefits were known, it was quickly discovered by ancient civilizations that the tree also provided many medicinal benefits, most notably an energy boost. Those who used Moringa found themselves experiencing inordinately high amounts of energy when compared to others, and it was believed to have many medicinal properties as well. Even more beneficial: the seeds themselves have been found to be useful in water purification (a topic covered in our previous post).

As a consequence of its versatility, the tree has spread far and wide. One of the remarkable properties of the tree is its ability to survive in dry regions (though it is susceptible to the cold), as such it can be found in many developed nations with warmer regions. In the United States, for example, Moringa cultivation occurs primarily in Hawaii, whose tropical climate is ideal for the plant. To reiterate, however, it can survive in regions susceptible to drought, making it a lifesaver in some areas.

The Science

Many lofty claims have been made about Moringa Oleifera, and one can be forgiven for being skeptical. After all, many products make bold claims about their particular ‘health food’, promising radical improvement for minimal investment and effort, but that does not always stand up to scrutiny. Fortunately, Moringa Oleifera has withstood the rigors of science and passed with flying colors. Gram for gram, the leaves of this tree make it the most nutritious known in agriculture. The plant provides all the benefits of carrots, bananas, and spinach in one convenient plant.

The water purification benefits are also well known and well substantiated. Seek cake, which is what remains when a Moringa seed is pressed for oil, contains dimeric cationic proteins, which cause impurities in the water to clump together. As a result of this clumping process, it becomes easy to decontaminate the water simply by removing the resulting sludge through filtration. The process of using colloids (like the proteins mentioned above) to purify water is referred to as “flocculation”. This, combined with the ability of Moringa to survive in drought-stricken regions, makes it an essential component in water reclamation, particularly in developing areas.

The precise medical benefits are still being studied, but there is an enormous amount of anecdotal evidence throughout history pointing to medical benefits. Aid workers in Africa have noticed that families incorporating Moringa leaves into their diet have greater energy throughout the day and tend to be healthier overall. Historical uses of Moringa have included using it to relieve some symptoms of inflammation and joint pain, to help normalize blood pressure, and as a digestive. Even more benefits have been reported from this miracle of nature, and it is only a matter of time before more come to realize the benefits of this amazing plant.

Moringa as a Water Purifier

The Moringa oleifera tree has become known as the “Miracle Tree” because of the many benefits that its leaves and seeds provide. Not only do they provide medicinal value but they are also considered a “Superfood” because of their fantastic nutritional attributes.

While these areas garner a good deal of attention, there is another practice where the moringa seeds have been found to be very effective: water purification.
Studies conducted over the past forty years have found that the moringa seeds are highly effective in removing suspended particles from water, especially if the levels of turbidity are medium to high. The studies concluded that moringa seeds are not as effective at treating water with low levels of turbidity.

What makes the moringa seeds so effective is the fact that they act as both a coagulant and an antimicrobial agent. The studies found that proteins in the seeds bind to toxins which create flocs that sink to the bottom enabling filtration of the particles. Continuing research on the antimicrobial characteristics of moringa seeds is also being conducted. It’s believed that moringa seeds directly inhibit the growth of bacteria and toxins in addition to coagulation. The percentage of filtered water with moringa seeds can be as high as 99%!

Moringa seeds offer a natural, safe way to filter water, not only in countries where water filtration is difficult but also in developed countries. Moringa seeds provide a great alternative to the conventional synthetic materials that are common in most water filtration systems.

Here are the steps involved in filtering your water using moringa seeds from Beth Doerr, ECHO Staff with miracletrees.org:

“Solutions of Moringa seeds for water treatment may be prepared from seed kernels or from the solid residue left over after oil extraction (presscake). Moringa seeds, seed kernels or dried presscake can be stored for long periods but Moringa solutions for treating water should be prepared fresh each time. In general, 1 seed kernel will treat 1 liter (1.056 qt) of water.

Dosage Rates:

Low turbidity NTU<50 1 seed per 4 liters (4.225 qt) water Medium turbidity NTU 50-150 1 seed per 2 liters (2.112 qt) water High turbidity NTU 150-250 1 seed per 1 liter (1.056 qt) water Extreme turbidity NTU >250 2 seeds per 1 liter (1.056 qt) water

Instructions to Clean Water with Moringa Seeds

1 Collect mature Moringa oleifera seed pods and remove seeds from pods.
2 Shell seeds (remove seed coat) to obtain clean seed kernels; discard discolored seeds.
3 Determine quantity of kernels needed based on amount and turbidity of water; in general 1 seed kernel will treat 1 liter (1.056 qt) of water.
4 Crush appropriate number of seed kernels (using grinder, mortar & pestle, etc) to obtain a fine powder and sift the powder through a screen or small mesh.
5 Mix seed powder with a small amount of clean water to form a paste.
6 Mix the paste and 250 ml (1 cup) of clean water into a bottle and shake for 1 minute to activate the coagulant properties and form a solution.
7 Filter this solution through a muslin cloth or fine mesh screen (to remove insoluble materials) and into the water to be treated.
8 Stir treated water rapidly for at least 1 minute then slowly (15-20 rotations per minute) for 5-10 minutes.
9 Let the treated water sit without disturbing for at least 1-2 hours.
10 When the particles and contaminates have settled to the bottom, the clean water can be carefully poured off.
11 This clean water can then be filtered or sterilized to make it completely safe for drinking.

Secondary Infection: The process of shaking and stirring must be followed closely to activate the coagulant properties; if the flocculation process takes too long, there is a risk of secondary bacteria growth during flocculation.
Recontamination: The process of settling is important. The sediment at the bottom contains the impurities so care must be taken to use only the clear water off the top and not allow the sediment to re-contaminate the cleared water.
Additional contaminants: Moringa treatment does not remove 100% of water pathogens.
It is acceptable for drinking only where people are currently drinking untreated, contaminated water.”
